Three Rivers has spectacular vistas of Sierra Blanca and the Tularosa basin located between Carizozo and Tularosa. In addition the Three Rivers Petroglyphs site is nearby  with outstanding examples of prehistoric Jornada Mogollon rock art. The basaltic ridge rising above the Three Rivers Valley contains over 21,000 petroglyphs, including masks, sunbursts, wildlife, handprints and geometric designs. A small Pueblo ruin is nearby as well. Discover New Mexico’s beautiful terrain!

This course provides outdoor recreational instruction on the concepts of backpacking and outdoor survival skills. Respect for our natural enviroment will be stressed and participants will be provided supervised backpacking experiences in the wilderness. New Mexico Junior College will provide backpacks, frames, cook stove, cookware, tents, sleeping bags, and compass for those who need them. The student must supply clothing, personal items, food, rain gear, and survival kit. The cost of these items is approximately $50 to $75. Participants need to be aware this is a streneous physical activity class. You need to be in fair physical condition for hiking and backpacking.
