Join Kelly Holladay and John Baldwin on a beautiful one day hike to see the sensational fall colors of the Guadalupe Mountains Park -McKittrick Canyon. The foliage of brilliant reds, subtle yellows, and deep browns is breath taking. Pack a sack lunch and bring plenty of water. The group will hike to the Pratt Cabin for lunch (roundtrip distance of 4.8 miles). Along this walk you will cross the stream twice before arriving at the historic structure. For those interested in proceeding to the Grotto, you will continue your hike. The forest becomes denser as the trail runs parallel to the stream. Rainbow trout are visible in the clear water.  At the junction ahead (approximately 1 mile), take the left fork to go to the Grotto. There, the dripping water percolates through the limestone, methodically redistributing calcium carbonate into stalagmites and stalagmites in the tiny "cave".  Visit
The group will end its adventous day at a Selenite Quarry. Selenite is a beautiful mineral that you can see being mined and can collect samples.
