Where Bison Roam

Where the Buffalo Roam! Wind and water over the eons shaped the rugged beauty of Caprock Canyons State Park in the Panhandle of Texas. Today, bison roam the plains, bats roost in Clarity Tunnel, and you can explore 90 miles of trails. Enjoy the rugged beauty of the powerful natural processes that created the park's steep and colorful canyons and bluffs.

This course provides outdoor recreational instruction on the concepts of backpacking and outdoor survival skills. Respect for our natural enviroment will be stressed and participants will be provided supervised backpacking experiences in the wilderness. New Mexico Junior College will provide backpacks, frames, cook stove, cookware, tents, sleeping bags, and compass for those who need them. The student must supply clothing, personal items, food, rain gear, and survival kit. The cost of these items is approximately $50 to $75. Participants need to be aware this is a streneous physical activity class. You need to be in fair physical condition for hiking and backpacking.
