ClassGraphic Climb the highest peak in the continental United States, Mount Whitney! Mount Whitney is 14,494 ft. at the summit. It is located right outside of Lone Pine, California, which is approximately 1,101 miles from Hobbs, New Mexico! Enjoy an adventure of a lifetime! Classes will meet Monday evenings beginning June 18 through July 16. The trip begins leaving Hobbs early Saturday, July 21 and returning Sunday, July 29. The course provides outdoor recreational instruction on the concepts of backpacking and outdoor survival skills. Respect for our natural enviroment will be stressed and participants will be provided supervised backpacking experiences in the wilderness. New Mexico Junior College will provide backpacks, frames, cook stove, cookware, tents, sleeping bags, and compass for those who need them. The student must supply clothing, personal items, food, rain gear, and survival kit. Participants need to be aware this is a streneous physical activity class. You need to be in fair physical condition for hiking and backpacking. If you have any questions, please contact the instructor. Limited to 13 participants.
